Is God Out? – part 1

According to many of us, especially in the Western Society, God is old-hat. He is a crutch for the weak-minded. We might have even accepted what Nietzsche said “God is dead”. For your information his life ended in disillusionment. Friedrich Nietzsche was German philosopher (1844-1900) who said that “Gott ist tot”.

The poor fellow had a mental breakdown for the last eleven years of his life. That means if he died at the age of fifty six, he pretty much lost it at the age of forty five.

L.A.Times, 29-10-1997, Sections of News article: by Steve Connor–Science Correspondent:
Dr. Vilayanur Ramachandran of the University of California in San Diego said that the phenomena of religious belief in God is “hard-wired” in our brain. Could this heretofore unidentified part of the brain — nicknamed the God module — actually be some sort of physiological seat of religious belief ? The scientists who discovered it believe it might be. The scientists said that although the research and its conclusions are preliminary, initial results suggest that the phenomenon of religious belief is “hard-wired” into the brain. – A spokesman for Richard Harries, the Bishop of Oxford, said whether there is a “God module” is a question for scientists, not theologians. “It would not be surprising if God had created us with a physical facility for belief,” he said. With this in mind it might be wiser not to fight against the existence of God too much, as we could damage our brains like poor Friedrich, as religious belief seems to be ‘hardwired’ up there.

“to be spiritually minded is life and peace” (Romans 8:6)
